Snapchat is one of the hardest social media platforms to grow on for the simple reason that you can’t follow people back and there’s no algorithm.
Although there are still some little tips and tricks to warp speed your Snapchat follower growth.
I’ve been on Snapchat for at least 5 years and in that time I found out things that have worked and not worked.
PS: Many of the articles that talk about growing your Snapchat are more specific to businesses. However, I’ve tailored this article for both individuals looking to become an influencer as well as businesses.
So without further ado, lets get right into it.
No.1 – Invite Your Contacts
Follower potential: 30 – 200
Difficulty: Very easy
Your contacts are people that know you already, so they’ll likely follow you back straight away.
If you’re a popular person and have plenty of contacts, this can give you anywhere from 30 – 200 friends from day 1.
Upon opening the app you will be asked if Snapchat can access your contacts, just click allow.
From here go to your Profile, click on Add Friends, Find Friends, and then you’ll have a long list of people to add.
No.2 – Upload to Snap Map
Follower potential: 20 – 100 per day
Difficulty: Easy
Snap Map is one of the easiest ways to get followers if you’re in a large city.
You can post anything from selfies, interesting locations, popular landmarks, etc.
This method will bring in hundreds of views to your story every single day.
And if you add your Snapcode to your post, a large chunk of them will add you, giving you up to 20 – 50 new followers (possibly more depending on where you live).
Just remember that some of these are bots.
Pro tip: Create a public profile. Your name will appear at the bottom of your Snap, making it super simple for people to add you.
Second tip: Add a location filter to your Snap. Snapchat may feature it on their public stories!
No.3 – Upload to Spotlight
Follower potential: 10 – 100 per day
Difficulty: Hard
Spotlight is another little golden nugget that can get you lots of followers in a short time frame.
Spotlight is similar to TikTok, you post funny/creative/interesting videos in the hopes that they go viral.
That means it works similar to TikTok.
You cannot post something with the intention of it going viral. In most cases the unexpected videos go viral instead.
That’s why it’s best to put your best foot ward and post on a consistent basis. Eventually 1 video will go viral and get your other videos noticed as well.
However, this requires a little more work than posting to Snap Map and requires some creativity.
No.4 – Add People from Quick Add
Follower potential: 15 – 40 per day
Difficulty: Very easy
Quick add is a feature that allows you to add mutual friends.
It’s a quick and easy way to get a good number of followers in a short amount of time.
Although just like everything else, there are bots sitting in the midst of the real people.
Just block them as soon as they send you any links.
No.5 – Make Your Snapcode Your Profile Picture
Go Ahead and Add Mine!
Follower potential: 1 – 20 per day
Difficulty: Medium
Getting lots of Snapchat followers is a result of what you do on other platforms just as much as on Snapchat.
If you’ve got a social media following on other platforms, simply make your profile picture your Snapcode.
The good thing about this method is that the trust is already there, and they are laser targeted people.
Bonus points for creating a Bitmoji so it shows on your Snapcode.
Also share your Snapcode to your audience on a frequent basis, but give them an incentive to add your Snapchat, otherwise they’ll have no reason to add you.
This can be anything from a coupon code, discount, free content, anything really.
People don’t like missing out on stuff, so make them feel like they need to be on your Snap.
No.6 – Post Quality and Engaging Content
Follower potential: Unlimited
Difficulty: Hard
Last but not least, you need to be creating quality content that gets your followers engaged.
It’s one thing to get people looking at your stories, but you need to know how to hold those followers while growing your follower count even more.
There are hundreds of ways to create great content. The key is to be entertaining, be funny, and provide value.
However, don’t focus on one thing because that gets boring after awhile.

Can’t I just Keep Adding People From Quick Add?
Yes you can…until hit you the 5,000 friend limit.
Although when you have 5,000 friends, people can still add you and subscribe.
You cannot add people manually when you’re at the maximum friend limit, which is why it’s so important that you put most of your efforts into getting “subscribers” with a public profile rather than adding new friends.
Getting your subscriber count up is where the growth happens, but adding friends is definitely a good way to get your foot off the ground.
Can I Get Followers Without Showing My Face?
Of course you can.
There are thousands of people that don’t show their face on Snapchat and have become successful.
The key is to provide good content that’s engaging, that’s the big difference.
However, you’ll still need to show your personality in one way or another.
This can be anything from your voice, humor, mannerisms, etc.
People follow people and brands because they like the people running the page.
If you’re boring and have no personality, or at least it seems like you don’t, people will think you’re weird and not open your Snaps.
How Long Does It Take to Get 1000 Followers?
As long as you combine all of these tips together:
- Invite your contacts
- Upload stories to Snap Map daily
- Create videos for Spotlight
- Add people from quick add
- Cross-promote from other platforms
- Post quality content
It shouldn’t take longer than 1 – 4 weeks, but you have to be working on it everyday.

After you get 1000 followers it’s your job to continue growing your follower count while keeping them glued to your stories.
